One of the major advantages of Android OS over other competing Mobile Operating Systems is the ability to customize almost each and every aspect of your device to your liking. You can change the overall look and working of your device to your very preference. In this aspect of customization, comes another feature of android that separates it from the lot and that is Widgets.

What are Widgets?

Zooper Widget Pro is a very useful app for android which was actually developed by MYCOLORSCREEN. The app will will add widgets to the main screen that makes the home screen very much interesting to use. Zooper Widget Pro does not only improve the experience of the phone but also making it look more fancy and beautiful. Zooper Widget is one of the most powerful customizable widgets available on the market. You may have noticed that I am a huge fan of it and have already given an intro and quick how-to on this site. Well, I've gone ahead and created a lengthy hands-on how-to article to help you build your own custom clock widget using one of Zooper Widgets built-in templates.

Widgets are a piece of code that acts as an interactive medium between the user and the app, placed generally on the home screen. A widget can be imagined as a “brief” or “at a glance” view of the app, or even dubbed as a mini-app. Ever since Android Cupcake (v1.5), Widgets have been an integral part of the Android system, helping users in their home screen customization. With Android Jellybean (v4.1), widgets have also gained the ability to be placed on the system’s lock screen.

3rd Party Widgets –

A quick search through the Play Store on widgets would give you over a thousand results, with each widget being different and catering to various user requirements. While everything works great on almost every widget available, one drawback of most of these widgets is the fact that most of them are already designed by the developer and cannot be modified by the user. At most, the user may have the ability to resize the widget (if supported by both the widget and the launcher), otherwise the user is pretty much confined to the normal widget settings.

How To Use Zooper Widget

Customizable Widgets

As mentioned above, the lack of customizability stands out as a big factor in determining which Widget to choose from. After all, Android is all about customizability, so why should a user be restricted to the designing of the developer? This brought about a change in the widget market, with the inclusion of customizable widgets. These widgets follow the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) ideology, that helps the user in customizing the widget entirely to their imagination. The most prominent customizable widgets available on the Play Store today are – Zooper Widget and KWGT.

Zooper Widget –

Zooper Widget is an app developed by MyColorScreen. As described by the developer, “Zooper is not one widget—it’s pretty much anything you can imagine”. Zooper offers a lot of features for customizability of its widgets. While the app does offer some inbuilt templates, the user may download other templates designed by other developers for Zooper, available from the Play Store. Zooper has a wide library of widgets, and is preferred by over a million android users. A Pro version is also available at the price of Rs. 185, which removes all Ads, enables the widget on-tap action customizability, the ability to load and/or save templates on SD Card, enable support of APK themes and compatibility with Buzz Launcher.

KWGT –

KWGT or Kustom Widget Maker is the brainchild of Kustom Industries. Pretty much like Zooper, KWGT offers tons of features under its hood for the customizability of various designs (called a Komponent). KWGT is made with a fresh mentality, a reimagined thinking of WYSIWYG and a minimal design, where imagination is the limit. The PRO version offered by the developer is available for Rs. 100, which removes all advertisements, and add the support to load skins from SD card as well as Buzz Launcher support.

Zooper vs KWGT –

  • Ease of Use –

Zooper offers a much more user friendly atmosphere while using the app, which is fairly easy to adapt to for any first timer. Install a template or choose from the pre-installed one, a few taps, and you’re good to go. On the other hand, KWGT is a much more complex app, which requires the user to spend some good amount of time learning the app.

  • 3rd Party Library –

If you are a user looking for lots of templates, Zooper offers way too many templates when put up against KWGT. Zooper has been around for a long time, and with its fairly easy UI, it becomes quite evident why there are much more templates for Zooper when put up against KWGT.

  • Functionality –

While both apps offer superb functionality, KWGT outshines Zooper by a margin. While Zooper is able to display a lot of information onto its widgets, KWGT has access to much more. Dynamic data is one such feature which sets KWGT above Zooper. Also, Zooper lacks the ability to display animations, something KWGT has had from the get-go and proves to be a desired feature by the community.

  • Battery Life –

One of the biggest concern for any user before installing any app onto their device, is what kind of an impact would it have on my battery life? While both these apps have minimal battery usage, KWGT does seem to be a tad bit lighter than Zooper.

  • Android Support –

Zooper has been around for a long time, way before KWGT entered the market. As such, the minimum requirement to run Zooper is Android 3.2 and upwards. On the other hand, KWGT only works on Android 4.4 and above.

  • Developer Support –

While installing any app, one feature that users must keep in their mind is how good the developer support is. For all those unwanted instances where the app crashes or any other mishap, you’d want to communicate with the developer. In this very aspect, Zooper falls behind. While the 3rd party user/developer community seems to grow every day, the original developer seems to have abandoned the project as a whole. Photoshop cs6 with crack file download. The last update for the app came out in March 2015, almost 2 years ago. On the other hand, KWGT is new, and has a very active dev support.

So which is better?

It’s understandable that a lot of hard work has been put in by both sets of developers into creating their specific apps. As such, it becomes a moral duty to purchase the PRO versions and support the dev. But which one should you go for? The answer to it is pretty simple. If you plan to primarily use other user created templates with little or no modification of your own, you should go with Zoo
per. If you plan on creating your own designs from near scratch, go with KWGT.

One should note that the free versions are not trials, and you can use them as a whole app itself. So, as always, you can try both of them yourself, and then choose to stick with the one you prefer. You can download the apps from the links given below:
